Should Facebook open an appstore?

You could argue that Facebook has a perfectly good application ecosystem already. One in which they don’t have to worry about the headache of millions of tiny consumer payments. But… could they improve their business model if their platform support extended to offering applications for sale, as well as ads? A point to ponder: how many Facebook applications out there today would people would be willing to pay for up front?

  1. Hi Heather,
While I believe this is a great idea but I doubt it will happen. The reason is simple. Facebook isn’t in the business of making money from selling anything on such a small scale. I think they are in the business of data mining. While they give assurances that personal details will not be made available to 3rd parties, they don’t give such assurances for statistical data they gain from analysing the huge database of people’s interests, etc.
